About TEAM University Kampala

A private university, built around its students.

We trace our roots to 2000 and were licensed as a university in 2015, with one conviction: East Africa needs universities that take their students as seriously as their standards. Today we’re a private Ugandan university licensed by the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) based at Wood House, Mengo, with graduates building companies, classrooms and careers across the region.

Our story

From a business college to a chartered university.

2000

It begins as Team Business College.

Founded by professional accountants to train students for certificates, diplomas and professional qualifications such as CPA and CIPS, working closely with the Ministry of Local Government.

2010

Uganda's first private degree-awarding institution.

NCHE grants a change of status to a private "Other Degree Awarding Institution" under the name Team Institute of Business Management (TIBM) — the first private ODAI in Uganda, mandated to confer its own Bachelor's, Master's and PhD degrees.

2015

Licensed as a University by the NCHE.

In October 2015, Team University is licensed by the National Council for Higher Education — building on fifteen years of professional and business-management training at Wood House, Mengo.

2024

Faculties merge into a sharper structure.

The University consolidates into five academic units: Management & Humanities, Education, Applied Science & Technology, the School of Health Sciences, and the School of Graduate Studies & Research.

2026

The 16th Graduation & the move to CBET.

The University graduates 1,351 students at its 16th ceremony, themed on Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET) — aligning with Uganda's national transition to competency-based higher education by 2027/2028.
